A Few Words

About Community Development-CoD Lab

A Social Lab that provides training, educational and employment related services for young people and women in a friendly and informal manner especially those who left school with incomplete or no formal qualifications. CoD Training Lab is owned, housed and managed by Community Uplift and Welfare Development (CUWEDE) which is a local community group and has a professional, highly skilled staff and modern, up-to-date facilities that fit in a rural setting. Learners might qualify to work at any of the CoD Training Lab departments or business accelerator hub or government departments or private sector companies or individual companies of choice.

 

CoD Lab Mandate: The Institute provides a fresh opportunity for young persons and women to attain nationally recognized certificates (provided by Directorate of Industrial Training-DIT after qualifying to attain in). Therefore at CoD Training Lab, learners attend for a minimum of three months and maximum of one year and during this time, they participate in personal, social, business and vocational skills training leading to major awards on the nationally recognized qualifications.

  • Building and Concrete Practices
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Tailoring and garment cutting
  • Electrical installation
  • Motor vehicle mechanics and driving
  • Welding and metal fabrication
  • Painting and decoration
  • Apiculture
  • Shoes, bags, belt, wallet and other item making
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

All the above courses have in-house classroom, workshop sites and field practical with Computer Literacy, Entrepreneurship, Field tour and on-job trainings/internship compulsory for all students at a public or private sector enterprises.

 

The objectives of CoD Lab
  1. To develop vocational, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship skills for inclusive community development.
  2. To nurture and develop the skills and capacity of young people and women with a special focus on the social, economic and environmental sectors.
  3. To identify, nurture and promote creative and innovative skills development and environment that foster open collaboration and talent development at local level.
  4. To develop the Lab’s capacity for effective skills building, networking, innovation, exchange, ideation and cross-mentorship for the next generation to thrive.
